Time to step up my porn
Here’s a fun little fact about me. I didn’t start blogging about sex because I was horny or in the mood to get naughty.
I started because I was fed up with how sex negative the internet had become.
I mean yeah, it’s full of porn.
But it’s also full of Terms of Service that severely limit what you can do on almost any platform.
I tried self-publishing through Amazon for a while, but I had to play very carefully, even though I put myself in the bad category.
Content creators had to bend the English language into ridiculous little pretzel shapes just to share very vanilla sex on TikTok – oh sorry, I mean sex education.
I have a folder of shortcuts to porn sites on my iPhone because the App Store doesn’t allow adult content. Besides the Reddit app – it’s okay with this den of depravity for some reason.
Even when you’re locked behind a paywall, they’ll control what kind of nudity you can show and what you can do to your body.
Like, you can stick your boobs out on Patreon – I do it every month. But you can’t be wet and you can’t show a hole. Which means I can’t give my friends with benefits full benefits if you catch me.
I was typing the first blog post of 2019.
And I wish I could say that things are better now, but no. It’s only gotten worse.
The big payment processors were already very negative about sex, but they took it a step further and actively cut off service on Pornhub.
After that, US lawmakers said “hold my beer” to Mastercard and tightened the squeeze even more.
It’s a piecemeal approach, with each state introducing similar age verification laws that likely violation of certain different rights.
The last one is Texas. Now, if you’re in this situation, you can’t access legal porn sites unless you submit a government-issued ID. And you can’t access Pornhub at all because Aylo has blocked access to all their sites in protest.
And because a large part of my podcast listeners happens to be based in Texas, that last limitation feels personal. Leave my sweet, horny pillowcases alone, goblins!
But it’s also personal because I know Canada might not be far behind.
There’s this joke-that-isn’t-joke about how Canada will watch the US make a big terrible decision – and then do the exact same thing ten years later.
You see, we’re not much better – we’re just slower.
So when I see laws like this popping up from under the border, I brace myself for when they show up in my neck of the woods.
And when they do, I’ll have two options.
I could find legal ways to enjoy porn without letting some random tech company scan my ID on behalf of my provincial government.
Or I could go to the basement. Go back to torrenting. Find questionable videos in the roughest corners of the internet. Or get really desperate and become one of those weird creeps on Reddit who DM every woman asking for pictures of their thighs.
Personally, I’ll stick to my legitimate sources. And I’m making my privacy now.
Save to Smut
I don’t know how strict the laws will become. And I don’t know how soon they will reach my neck of the woods.
Hopefully they will go away and we can all go back to using the internet for what it is – having fun and watching people get fucked.
But I’ll stock up, just in case.
First, I’ll download and back up my favorite porn scenes.
This is not something you can do on every porn site, but I can on the ones that really count.
I have annual subscription to Adult Timewhich comes with unlimited downloads in very high resolutions.
I can think of a dozen adult scenes I don’t want to live without, so I’ll start with those. But I’ll probably get carried away and have to buy more storage to hold it all.
I also have been into TeamSkeet a lot lately. And since I have TeamSkeet Premium, I can also download as much as I want. Which means I can upload all kinds of playful and slightly taboo scenes.
Oh, and I have a small collection of porn magazines.
Okay, calling it a collection is a bit much.
Of four issues of Barely Legal;.
But it could be so much more. And download porn in the mail it’s a really fun surprise, so I might end up subscribing to another dirty magazine or two.
If I never have to scan my driver’s license or do one of those facial biometric things just to log in to a site where girls point to the bush, I might sign up for five or six.
And hopefully I’ll also have options to buy direct.
There are OnlyFans, JustForFans, Fansly and all these types of sites right now. And I absolutely love them. Getting DIY porn straight from the hot people making it is pretty cool.
I would love to lose them.
But if they are limited to all hell, I know there will be other options. The performers are smart and creative. They will find a solution.
If that means people like me sending them money for access to a Google Drive folder of clips and photos, then I’ll be consenting to their DMs to find the details.
This whole thing sucks
This situation is just crap. And it is wrong on many different levels.
Having a right to privacy is a very good thing. Free expression is also very nice. And every step taken to limit access to porn problems with both of these principles.
I really don’t care about letting some third party collect my identifying information just to watch adults doing adult things. I know porn sites have a reputation for being sketchy, but I trust them a lot more than I trust some startup that wants to collect my passport images.
It also sucks because I know it’s not going to stop there.
Our legal rights are something like a paint that is starting to peel. Once they’ve removed a bit of your privacy, it’s very easy for them to grab the rest in large chunks.
I’m glad Aylo isn’t just giving in and withdrawing access to Pornhub. I can’t fault them at all for that and will support any company that decides to do the same thing.
But I’m also a red-blooded Canadian. I love porn and I don’t want to lose access to it.
And I don’t want to get my fix from sites that are still doing what Pornhub did when it started – posting stolen content without compensating the people who created it.
Well, I have my magazines. I will continue to support my favorite scenes.
And if they ever come for my porn, I’ll tire of my little hiding place until the whole system is fooled.
