What is the Venice Simplon Orient Express?
This is not your average high-speed train crossing Europe. The Venice Simplon Orient Express is a historic art deco train where you can relive the golden age of travel.
Everything about the train exudes luxury. Think polished wooden furniture, crystal champagne glasses and silver china. Tickets are expensive, but you can guarantee you’ll be treated like royalty the entire time!
The walk
Our trip left Venice at 11am and arrived in London just after 6pm. Along the way, we saw the beautiful landscapes of Austria, Germany, Liechtenstein and France outside our windows. However, the train also serves other routes to Belgium, the Netherlands and many other destinations across Europe.
Catching the gondola at the train station
The train will stop several times, mostly at the border to change engines and conductors. Therefore, you will have some time to stretch your legs or get some fresh air throughout the day.
After arriving in France the next morning, you will actually disembark from the Venice Simplon and board a coach (which is also extremely luxurious) to travel to the Chunnel. Once you arrive in England, you will board the Belmond British Pullman Luxury Train to continue your ride to London.
The rooms
Keeping the same art deco vibe, the rooms are nothing short of glamorous. You can book a single or twin cabin, a suite cabin or, if you want to relax, a large suite.
We chose the suite cabin, which came with a convertible couch/bunk bed, a small table, and a built-in sink and vanity. Toilets are located in each carriage, although they are shared with other guests.
Your room also comes with toiletries, robes and slippers so you can relax before bed.

Although most people avoid train food, this will not be the case on the Venice Simplon. Every meal you will have is excellent. Between the high-quality service and gourmet dining options, you’ll feel like you’re dining in a Michelin-starred restaurant. Dinner is also a formal event, so be sure to bring at least one nice outfit.
After dinner, you can have a drink in the Bar Car or enjoy live music from the baby pianist.
The Venice Simplon Orient Express is guaranteed to be an unforgettable experience from the moment you board. It’s one of those moments you’ll remember for the rest of your life!
