As we come to the end of the year, you may be looking back and thinking about all the things you hoped to accomplish this year that didn’t quite work out. This is especially true if you were hoping to meet someone or start dating. If that’s you, don’t despair. A new year always brings with it opportunities to create opportunities for different things, and starting a relationship is one of them. The only caveat is that you should be open-minded and maybe try things you haven’t tried before. There are many opportunities that you could take advantage of in the new year, and you could even make some of these opportunities yourself!
For many people, the new year is about resolutions and goals that you aim to achieve during the year. Finding a new job, losing weight, eating healthier, going to the gym, starting a new hobby or even picking up an old one are all different goals that people set when it comes to the new year. And these are all worthwhile goals to pursue, and the fresh start of a new year is as good a time as any to start with them.
Relationship goals are also very popular in the new year, and if you’re reading this, chances are that’s something that’s on your mind. Rest assured, the new year offers a great opportunity to tackle those goals, despite the challenges you may have faced in the past. So, how can you take advantage of the opportunities available to you? Here are some tips.
Expand your social circle
If meeting new people is your challenge, you may need to think of ways to move outside your current circle or expand your circle of friends and acquaintances. How do you do that, you ask? Well, you could start by joining a meetup group with people with similar interests. This doesn’t have to be dating specific – these interests are great to add to your online dating profile! – but just a group of people who enjoy the same things as you, be it travel, photography, knitting, sports, etc.
The upside of this is that it comes without the pressure of dating, but you could make some great friendships and who knows where they might lead? If you can’t find a meetup group you like, why not consider starting one yourself?
Meet new people
If you are actively looking to date or start a relationship, you could look into the various Christian singles events that are regularly organized by different organizations. The Events for Christians the website (UK) is regularly updated with meetings. If there is nothing near you, why are you arranging something through Christian Connection? It will be shared on the event page for other members to participate.
You could even start a nun group or fellowship at your local church and have people invite their single friends to come along. All of this may seem quite scary at first, but unless you try something different, nothing is likely to change on the relationship front. Don’t forget, other singles probably feel the same way you do!
Get online!
Online dating is another fantastic opportunity to put yourself out there and meet that special someone. It’s never been easier to sign up and start working on your profile. Put some nice pictures and sell yourself! The good thing about online dating is that people can read your profile and decide if they want to get to know you more or not. And you can do the same with theirs. And you really need to start a conversation or meet up with someone you really care about.
You may have many goals and New Year’s resolutions for the coming year, but if meeting someone is one of them, you’ll need to take that step and seize the opportunities that a new year brings, and hopefully until the end of the year, you can check this one off your list!
What are your plans to create opportunities for the coming year?
