Matt and Vicky met at Christian Connection and were recently married. Matt said, “I thought it was time to be proactive in looking for a partner instead of waiting. I wanted to use a Christian website as it is in line with my faith and beliefs.” For Vicky, it was time for a change: “I had used Christian Connection previously in my 20s, but it had taken me several years to be purposefully single. I prayed a lot about coming back to CC and felt like God said it was the right time.”
Here is the rest of the story of their meeting.
Can you remember the onboarding process and your first impressions?
The free trial at the time provided an opportunity to get a feel for the site before committing to a subscription.
What were the most important things to include in your profile?
Matt: The most important things for me were to include the type of person you are looking for and what values you want to share with a future partner. An honest account of where you are in your faith, plus current photos!
Wiki: Full paragraphs of information and a selection of recent photos. So many profiles just had a few words in each section that gave no information to those reading the profile.
How did you first log in?
Vicky nodded, Matt responded. Vicky sent the first message!
How did things turn out?
Due to lockdown and personal circumstances, we didn’t meet for 3 months after we initially started talking online. We actually didn’t even have FaceTime (wouldn’t recommend it in retrospect!)
What did you do on your first date?
We went for a walk in local woods which turned into a 3 hour hike!
Were there any awkward moments along the way?
Host! Matt didn’t take any of my hints to go on a second date, and then when we did go on one, I mentioned it was almost time for dinner. Matt responded by saying he had lasagna waiting for him at home!
When did you find out?
Matt: I had a sneaking suspicion that my feelings deepened when Vicky treated me so well for my 40th birthday, just 3 months after our first date.
Vicky: I took a much more cautious approach as I wanted to be sure of my feelings. I told my best friend that Matt could be a husband after 6 months of dating.
How did you get engaged?
On a camping trip in Derbyshire. Vicky was feeling pretty tired and wanted to stay on stage and play another game of Battleships. Matt insisted on setting up a fire and getting the marshmallows out. With the fireplace lit and the sun setting, Matt dropped to one knee. Vicky cried happy tears for about 3 hours!
How was your wedding?
Awesome! Throughout the planning process and on the day itself, we could see God’s providence and goodness for all things. From avoiding the rain to a huge rainbow over the ocean, God was with us 100%.
What happened since then?
We moved into a house together that we got shortly before the wedding and started a complete home renovation!
What are the best things about living together?
It’s so nice to be in the same space and have people over for food. We enjoy hanging out together.
What do you enjoy/appreciate in each other?
We are both very different characters. Matt is very laid back and laid back, while Vicky is more proactive and task focused. We balance each other out in many ways.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful story, Matt and Vicki! We are excited to help you meet at the right time!
